The following mixed case includes six bottles each of:
2020 Rioja Crianza, Monte Araya Roca
The nose here is expressive and perfumed, with warm, bright, red berry fruits and a hint of clove, spice and vanilla. Luscious, plump and showy on the palate, with plum and blackberry flavours and fine, polished tannins. 12 months in American and French oak adds notes of balsam, cedar and a gentle toastiness. A fine Crianza, with a persistent finish.
2016 Rioja Gran Reserva, Monte Araya Roca
This is a very smart Gran Reserva from Medievo. 30 year-old tempranillo and garnacha vines spent two years in American and French oak barrels, followed by three years maturation in bottle. A structured, substantial wine with lots of presence – powerful but also refined and extremely well-balanced. A striking, multi-layered palate, with ripe, intense red and black berry fruits enhanced with notes of roasted coffee, dark chocolate and vanilla
