Bourgogne Blanc, Alain Chavy 2023 (magnum)
This really is a very elegant wine, with a definite nod to the great wines of Puligny-Montrachet from where it has emerged.
A pale golden shimmer in the glass has deepened only slightly since my last encounter, and remains accompanied by delicate aromas of ripe orchard fruit, apple and pear with a hint of citrus.
The palate follows the nose with ripe, crisp orchard fruit, poached pear and apple leading the charge with a smooth creaminess to the lengthy, dry finish, which is punctuated with a crisp, freshening streak of minerality.
The palate is has a lovely weight to it, I believe only around 10% is vinified in old French oak barriques, so it really is down to the quality of fruit and winemaking skill which adds to the richness and delightful mouth-feel.
