Mercurey Blanc, Château de Chamirey 2020
A lovely, light golden hue in the glass with and aromas of dried apricot, nectarine a hint of lemongrass, apple skin, and banana. Sipping reveals a palate rich with dried exotic fruit, citrus notes, a hint of orange zest, and a creamy richness transitioning towards nuttiness in the finish.
Oak presence is subtle, adding texture and warmth, becoming more pronounced only as the fruit fades on the finish. The wine offers a rounded texture, a touch of salinity, and a gripping dryness.
Ideal pairings include oozingly ripe brie, mixed charcuterie, or poached salmon. Nevertheless, I've thoroughly enjoyed savouring it on its own. A piece of advice: avoid serving it too chilled; aim for 'cellar temperature' around 12-14°C. As the wine warmed in my glass during a 20-minute tasting, it became significantly more expressive both aromatically and on the palate.
