Jean Pabiot & Fils Fines Caillottes Pouilly-Fumé has been a favourite of ours for several years, and their 2022 is, in our view, their best yet. It is again a reflection of this artisanal familys striving for quality in a great vintage year. Good Pouilly-Fumé was often in the shadow of neighbouring Sancerre but not now as Jean Pabiot demonstrates with this gorgeous wine.

The Pabiot family are a fifth-generation family of artisanal growers who cultivate some of the best terroirs in this famous Loire appellation: Silex (flint) and Kimmeridgian (clay and limestone partially composed of fossilised crustacea).

The wine has classic grassy, citrussy, aromas, smoky aromas for a palate dazzled by crisp, ripe, zesty, minerally streaked, grapefruit-citrus fruit, mouthwatering acidity, and seemingly endless length. It is a perfect accompaniment with seafood: mussels, oysters, crabs, clams and all fish - and of course on its own.

Classic grassy aromas with a hint of citrus on the nose; on the palate, a crisp mineral character with green fruit on the finish. Here, a perfect balance of ripe, zesty fruit and characteristic minerality.
