2022 Achille from the Bindi Sergardi family is back - and just in time because I opened my last bottle this week! This is one of my favourite red wines in the FromVineyardsDirect portfolio - my go-to Italian red wine.

I owe my colleague and founder of FromVineyardsDirect, David Campbell, a big 'thank you' here for introducing me to the Achille. Because before I joined FromVineyardsDirect, I'd long been searching for a ‘house’ Italian red. But since trying this predominantly Sangiovese cuvée, I haven’t looked back. So again, thank you, David!

Cherry, cranberry, redcurrant, and a subtle herbaceous character of blackcurrant leaf on the nose. There are spicy, floral aromas, too, and the palate is round, smooth, and soft. Medium bodied and immensely drinkable on its own, or as an incredibly versatile match to almost any Italian inspired dish, especially those that are tomato-based.

At home, we drink Achille with ragù alla bolognese, lasagne, pizza, and it works perfectly with all the flavours in our butter bean stew - enjoyed at the time of writing – especially sun-dried tomatoes, dill, cinnamon, paprika, and feta cheese.

Previous buyers of our popular Achille won’t need convincing, but if any of the above dishes resonate with you, then I encourage you to try this wine – it might become your 'Achilles' heel', too.

The estates beautiful 1000 hectares are set among the ancient villages of Vagliagli and Monteriggioni and within Chiantis three prestigious DOCGs: Classico, Chianti and Chianti Colli. Alessandra has been at the helm since 2005, bringing new light to the family business and ensuring their Achille, Governo all'uso and 'La Ghirlanda' continue in rendering wines of exceptional elegance and expression.

How does the wine taste? Customer Reviews (3)
Indulge in luscious, toasty, spicy, blend of Sangiovese from a 24-generation pedigree of Tuscan winemaking. Beautifully textured, red and black-cherry and blackberry fruit on the palate in what is classic varietal expression and a superb complement to charcuterie, pizza and all manner of grilled red meats.

Definitely my favourite FVD find of recent time. The wine is full to bursting of rich, luscious fruit - well balance finish. Pairs with lots and lots of food. Excellent value

FBD description is spot on. Delicious, well-made wine with a touch of elegance, excellent with food and yet affordable and good value for money. Baby super-Tuscan. Will buy again.

Still excellent value from a very good producer. Just right with the oak for me.

"Winemaker Alessandra Casini Bindi Sergardi is the 24th generation at this Tuscan estate which is a long term favourite of FromVineyardsDirect. I have enjoyed various wines of theirs in the past. This is mostly Sangiovese with a touch of Merlot, and spent three months in French oak barriques. Deep crimson, the nose has a seductive creaminess and touch of fudge character, some sweet tobacco spice and hint of floral lift is lovely too. Medium-bodied, there's a real juiciness at the core of this, bursting-ripe black and red berries, with a nice firm cedar touch underpinning, but that juiciness combines with pert acidity and a light but gravelly tannin for real freshness in the finish. A little star."

"...a juicy, brambly blend of Sangiovese and Merlot, vinified and aged in stainless steel for freshness, with just a touch of old oak at the end for texture. With its welcoming ripe, sweet fruit and soft tannins, Toine thought it the perfect house wine, with no need to spend more."
