If you’ve been fending off the chill lately with such robust reds as those from the Southern Rhône or Languedoc, Barbera d’Alba offers a compelling alternative. Enzo Boglietti’s 2023 Barbera d’Alba, especially. Especially with what richer, heartier dishes this frosty season demands. Because from this modern master of Piemonte comes all the silky succulence, bright acidity and enveloping elegance, plushness, and depth to perfectly meet this demand.

Whether that’s for slow-cooked dished, egg-rich pastas, ragù, braised meats, roasted game, or winter stews, put Boglietti Barbera alongside and you’ve paired a most gorgeous expression of one of Piemonte’s most beloved red grape varietals. One that Enzo sources from three highly revered, Barolo-based single vineyards, in fact: La Morra, Roddino and Sinio.

All expertly blended for a 2023 vintage that is, of course, utterly exquisite on its own. Where intense, red and dark-fruit fragrances, spicy nuances, rich layers of juicy, red- and black-cherry flavours, sweet spice, mouthwatering acidity, refined tannins, and a near-endless finish is enough to put Barbera firmly on your shortlist of favourites.

How does the wine taste? Customer Reviews (1)
A symphony of candied raspberry, bramble fruit, crème de cassis and lifted, pink petal aromas. Delicately weighted, with plush, pure fruit impact on the palate showing great ripeness and direction. A structured, earthy core with a veil of freshness and fine tannin to complete this modern, bold and expressive wine.

So lovely my generally abstemious wife asked for a second glass

Thomas Pritchard - September 2023
