Many wine merchants will often say that their favourite wines are from Alsace. Yet this wonderfully beautiful eastern corner of France, with its glorious white wines, and tremendous cuisine, remains surprisingly unknown to most wine lovers. I have been going to Alsace almost every year all my life.
Dopff and Irion have 22 hectares of vines in wonderful wine country with a rich mosaic of subsoils whilst 60% of the vineyards of Alsace have less than one. Grapes are hand-picked and sorted, all the emphasis is on quality, not quantity followed by traditional winemaking at its very best at the Château de Riquewihr, built in 1549 by the Princes of Württemberg.
