We can't share stories about visiting vineyards at the moment so instead we are sharing how we're actually drinking the wines at home. This new discovery, picked from a range of samples sent to us recently, is gorgeous on its own and it was spot-on as a foil for my wife Claires Chinese pork and water chestnut recipe the ripeness of fruit matching the slight sweetness of the dish perfectly and the bright fruit and acidity cutting through the fatty pork Yum!

The Mercurey from Château de Chamirey comes from the Cote Chalonaise which is a rising area of Burgundy thanks to warmer weather and great new winemakers. As well as how it tastes with Chinese pork above, the classic tasting note is that it is beautifully fruity yet classic pinot on the nose, followed on the palate with an almost opulent texture, fleshy and silky with rich cherry fruit. Then cleaning up to a refined, ever-so-delicately grippy finish with juicy acidity.

About the producer:
The 37 hectares of 35 year-old vines that make up Domaine Château de Chamirey cover the diversity of the Mercurey appellation perfectly; the family were very early adepts of bottling wines at the domaine, a practice that ensures higher quality, and one which they have done since 1934 when the current generations grandfather, the Marquis de Jouennes, introduced it. Low intervention principles in the vineyard, a drive to get absolute phenolic ripeness in the grapes and a great attention to detail in the winery, where the wines undergo a slow fermentation and long ageing in oak casks (about 15% new only to preserve the purity of fruit) all combine to yield fruit-driven wines of great opulence, excellent structure, to be enjoyed immediately or aged for 3-5 years.

Domaine Château de Chamirey is owned by the growers who make our popular Côteaux de Bourguignons 'Le Renard', and it is their show piece premium wine from their vineyards on the south facing slopes in the heart of Mercurey.

How does the wine taste? Customer Reviews (0)
From the Côte Chalonnaise and what is one of Burgundy’s asceding regions thanks to warmer weather and a community of great new winemakers. Which in this cuvée accounts for its joyously fruity yet classic Pinot nose, its opulent texture, and a fleshy, silky, rich cherry-fruit palate that cleans up to a refined, ever-so-delicately grippy finish with juicy acidity. Scrumptious Mercurey.
