Christmas and the New Year are when magnums come into their own, either to drink, or as rather splendid presents.
Why magnums? Well, firstly, wine matures more gradually in larger bottles and there is an uptick in the quality as a result. Secondly, they look fabulous on any table and you only have to pull one cork rather than two! My advice for magnums is always to open them a couple of hours before you tuck in.
