Cepas Single Vineyard Cabernet Franc, Penedo Borges, Mendoza 2020
At a recent tasting we absolutely adored two new, superlative Cabernets from Argentina we decided (rather unusually) to ship directly from the estate, Penedo Borges, in Mendoza. Cabernet Franc that fine, superb grape made most famous in Pomerol and Loire, that has incidentally produced the only Argentinian wine to ever earn 97 points from Robert Parker.
And alongside, their house-styled Cabernet Sauvignon and 'the winemaker's choice' with layers of ripe fruit in abundance, though with excellent poise and structure.
Both are made by Bodegas Penedo Borges in high vineyards on the banks of the beautiful Mendoza river in western Argentina, in sight of the majestic Andes mountains. These are the wines that discerning locals drink rather than the ubiquitous Argentinian Malbec.
