Château Meaume 'Reserve du Château', Bordeaux Superieur 2018
Château Méaume 'Réserve du Château' has very rightly been a favourite of ours and FromVineyardsDirect customers for many years. It is impeccably made by the Johnson-Hill family since 1980 in lovely countryside just outside the Pomerol and Saint-Émilion appellations.
From predominantly Merlot's 50-year-old low yielding vines, their 2018 is a rich, concentrated, classic-styled claret made in one of the finest Bordeaux vintages.

"Composed of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Méaume gives up wild blueberries, baked cherries and garrigue scents with suggestions of pencil lead, stewed tea and wild sage. Medium-bodied, it has a taut, muscular palate with lovely vibrancy and soft, rounded tannins, finishing with an herbal lift."

The 'Réserve du Château', made in much smaller quantities, is (in our view) significantly superior to the more widely distributed Château Méaume, and something of a bargain. As always, it is delivered in Méaume's traditional wooden Bordeaux cases. It is drinking well now, and will for many years to come.
