Try this instead of Sauvignon Blanc: Albariño from Galicia in Spain’s verdant, seafood-abundant coastal northwest. From Rías Baixas, where Bodega Pazo de Villarei source from higher altitude vineyards this crisp, white varietal loved for its floral freshness, tangy orchard fruit, brilliant acidity, and sleek minerality. Where it’s loved even more when alongside all that seafood.

Try their Abadia do Seixo’ Albariño 2023 = and you’ll see why so loved. Because once treated to a calibre of delicacy, detail, and sophistication that’s more typical of a £20 Sancerre, you’ll find adding this new dimension to your white wine-drinking pleasure to be well chosen.

And with the autumnal fish and seafood season now upon us, there can’t be a better time to choose so well.  A vibrantly flavoured Albariño you can put anywhere you would a Pouilly-Fumé, Touraine, Gavi di Gavi, Soave, Vouvray, or South African Chenin Blanc.

From Spain’s seafood-abundant coastal northwest where the producer sources from higher altitude vineyards this crisp, white varietal loved for its floral freshness, tangy orchard fruit, brilliant acidity, and sleek minerality. Where it’s loved even more when alongside all that seafood. Super alternative to Sauvignon or Muscadet.

I am no wine connoisseur but we keep coming back to this Rias Baixas - fresh and crisp and so much better than the ones we have tried from the supermarkets. (previous vintage)

I'm a bit of a blinkered Francophile, but this Spaniard was a real eye-opener for me. We eat a lot of fish and shellfish and this is a delightful match. I will keep my eye a tad more open in future! (previous vintage)

"From Rías Baixas, the very heart of Galicia's Albariño country, and 20-year-old vines planted at altitude. The nose is reminiscent of waxy lemon rind and crunchy apple, just a little whisper of the briney, seaside character that some of these wines express. In the mouth it is quite a ripe and forward style, mouth-filling citrus and peach, with a clean finish."
