Vieilles Vignes Rouge, Domaine de la Jasse 2021 (magnum)
Despite a difficult spell of frost in early April (resulting in a yield reduction of up to 40%), 2021 shaped up to be an astonishing vintage, as Le Breton himself puts it. Rainfall was even and regular, punctuating prolonged periods of decent sunshine.
And although overall temperatures were somewhat below average, they promoted a wonderful heterogeneity and balance of acidity and tannins in healthy fruit.
As such, and although smaller in size, the 2021 vintage has rendered juicy, fully flavoured fruit with preserved freshness and vigour. Vibrant, deeply flavoured cabernet sauvignon that is elegant, aromatic, and, though irresistible now, also happy to spend the next ten years developing further layers of enchanting nuance and flavour.
